There are a lot of wonderful lakes in Montenegro that you can visit. There are different types of lakes here, including glacial, artificial, and other lakes.
Lake Skadar (Skadarsko Jezero)

Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkan region and Southern Europe. It is located on the border with Albania. Its larger Montenegrin part is a national park. Boating here is calming and awesome! Lake Skadar is known as one of the largest bird reserves in Europe, so it is popular among birdwatchers.
Lake Piva (Pivsko Jezero)

Lake Piva is located in the northwestern part of Montenegro, in the region of Plužine, not far from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the biggest artificial lake in Montenegro (its length is 42 km, maximum depth is 180 meters). The lake appeared as the result of the construction of the Hydro Power Plant “Piva” in 1976. In the summer months, Lake Piva is good for swimming, boating, fishing, kayaking, etc.
Black Lake (Crno Jezero)

Black Lake (or Crno Jezero in Montenegrin) is the heart of Durmitor National Park. This glacial lake, beautifully surrounded by mountains, is one of the main attractions here, and you can’t miss it because it is very easily accessible, especially if you stay in Žabljak! In July and August, it is nice to swim in the lake. During these months, the water temperature is about 20°C. Lakes formed by glaciers have their unique water color.
Lake Plav (Plavsko Jezero)

Lake Plav is the largest glacial lake in Montenegro. It is located in Plav, near Prokletije National Park, so you can combine seeing it with visiting Prokletije. This lake is about 900 m above sea level and has a lot of springs in it. Fishing is popular here as well as boating. Or you can just sit near the lake, drink some coffee, take a break from the hot weather of the coast, and relax.
Lake Biograd (Biogradsko Jezero)

Lake Biograd is the center of the Biogradska Gora National Park near Kolašin. Relict forests surround this large glacier lake. The territory around Lake Biograd is well prepared for hiking, picnics, and other entertainment. If you are here for the first time, you can start with the educational trail going around the lake and then explore other hiking trails nearby.
Lake Krupac

Lake Krupac is an artificial lake near Nikšić, the second largest city in Montenegro, and is sometimes called Nikšić Sea. This is a nice recreational area, and during hot summer days, it is very popular among locals. Lake Krupac attracts people with its clean water, so swimming is great here. The lake is rich in fish. Also, Lake Krupac is known for different musical events and festivals held around it.
