There are a lot of great Adriatic coast beaches in Montenegro and about 40 of them have the Blue Flag international award that confirms their quality. The water is very clean almost everywhere and the Adriatic Sea has an awesome water color. For example, Budva Riviera offers a unique variety of the best beaches to you. Let’s just name a few of the nice beaches in Montenegro.
Jaz
Famous Jaz beach is quite long, with very clear water of fantastic color, nice sand and picturesque cliffs around. It is located 6 km to the west of Budva and the best way to get here is by car or taxi from Budva, Kotor or Tivat (during summer season small buses also go to Jaz from Budva but they may be quite full). I don’t recommend you walking to Jaz from Budva, it is a good pathway between Budva and Mogren fortress only and you can walk there but after Mogren fortress the path becomes inconvenient or even dangerous for pedestrians.
Velika plaža (Long beach)
The longest beach in Montenegro – about 13 km in length – is situated between Ulcinj and the river Bojana near the border with Albania. Velika plaža means Big (or Long) beach. With its warm shallow water and winds this place gives great opportunities for kitesurfing. It is well-known for its dark volcanic sand. The best way to get here is by car or taxi.
Mogren
It is very easy to find Mogren beach, just go to the right from Budva Old Town – about 2-3 minutes along the picturesque path (or more because you will probably would like to stop and photo the views) and you are on Mogren beach. You will enjoy the views of Mogren fortress on top. During summer season, try to go here in the morning for swimming because later it may be overcrowded both by tourists and locals.
Kamenovo
Jet another great beach of Budva Riviera. Quite small but picturesque and you can easily walk here from Budva (keep direction to Bar along the coast) in 30-40 minutes. Sure, you can get here by bus (there is a bus stop close to the beach) or car or taxi. This beach has its own atmosphere and named by rocks and stones surrounding it. In my opinion, this is probably the best beach, easily accessible, comfortable, beautiful and usually not overcrowded.
Sveti Stefan beaches
Near Sveti Stefan (about 9 km from Budva) you will find 3 great beaches: Sveti Stefan beach, Miločer beach and Queen’s beach. In previous years, the entrance here was either forbidden, or very expensive (about 200 euros). But in 2024, they are completely free and you can enjoy crystal clear water and great views. We’ll see what will happen to these places in future but now it is a time to enjoy them! You can easily get here by bus from Budva (going every 10 minutes in summer time, cost is 2.5 euros) or by taxi/car.
Bečići beach
This beach was named the most beautiful beach of Europe in 1935. Definitely, a lot has changed since then but still it is a very long (about 2 km) nice sandy beach. It is located in Bečići town close to Budva (if you go along Budva embankment through tunnel, you’ll get straight to Bečići, it is only a 15-20 minutes of walking). During summer, Bečići beach is a centre of paragliding and different water activities. During winter, it is perfect for walking, jogging, riding a bicycle, etc.
