Lake Skadar (or Skadarsko Jezero in Montenegrin) is the largest lake in Southern Europe. Its area ranges from 370 to 530 square kilometers, depending on the season. The larger part of Lake Skadar belongs to Montenegro and the smaller part to Albania. The Montenegrin part of the lake is a national park.

Mountains surround Lake Skadar, so while boating, you will enjoy different mountain views that change quickly.

Lake Skadar is known for its biodiversity and has almost 300 bird species. They include pelicans, seagulls, cormorants, herons, and many others. There are a lot of opportunities for birdwatching here. Special tours for birdwatchers are organized.

Lake Skadar is partly occupied with water lilies, and it is a very unusual picture. When they have a blooming season, this is a charming view.

Renting a boat is a great way to explore the lake. Also, you can rent a kayak here or go fishing. There are two possible starting points for your boat trip. First, Virpazar – it is the easiest starting point, which is located quite conveniently on the road Bar – Podgorica, so it is easily accessible. But it may be overcrowded during the summer season.

Another starting point is a small village Rijeka Crnojevića. It is a quieter place. Here you can see Rijeka Crnojevića Bridge built in the 19th century and enjoy a hiking trail going to the old mills and then to the Cave Obod.

Near Rijeka Crnojevića, you can see one of the iconic viewpoints of Montenegro – Pavlova Strana, a river turn forming a horseshoe bend surrounded by green hills. Looks fantastic!
Lake Skadar region is a wine region of Montenegro, so here you can visit local wineries that offer good wine at quite affordable prices.
